Hey there everyone! It has been a little too quiet the last few days and that has bugged me since I had wanted to share what I had been up to in game! You see, I love PVP. I would dare say that at one time, I was pretty good at it. Now days, I am a little rusty, but that is alright. I still love jumping in and having fun. Well, lately I have noticed that immediately upon entering the battlegrounds, all you hear are people complaining about how the Horde always loses. Now granted this is mostly true if you are constantly getting stuck in Isle of Conquest, but if we set aside that particular battleground, then based on my own individual results, the Horde is winning around 50% of the battlegrounds I have been in.
I will use yesterday as my basis for this discussion. I had enough time to grind out a few battlegrounds and I was in dire need of PVP gear, so I hit the random queue and removed the restriction I had set against Isle of Conquest. (I really do dislike that one overall.) I immediately got Isle of Conquest. While it was not the greatest match ever, it was competitive with the Horde having the Alliance commander at 10% when we lost. Compared to how most of those matches goes, it is not too bad. Next up, I got Warsong Gulch. I don't know about you all, but the original battlegrounds are still the best battlegrounds in my humble opinion. We quite easily dealt with the Alliance team there and won the match. Up next was the Silvershard Mines, which I usually have really great games in, but not so much this time as we lost. Next up was Deepwind Gorge, which I still know very little about. As a side note, I need to actually read up on what I am supposed to be doing in there. Would probably be better than just following around a mob of players. However, in this instance that worked out! As we won that match. After the Gorge, was anothe Isle of Conquest, which we were embarrassed in. The night's action was finished up in Arathi Basin, where once again the Horde team rebounded and won the game.
So that was three wins and three losses. In terms of playing with a random group of people in order to accomplish a very specific task, I would say that is probably the best you could hope for outside of queuing with a premade group. So it brings me back to wondering why so many players, I assume they are there on the other side of the field too, are complaining about never winning? My experience has always been that there are some battlegrounds where the Horde does well, some where the Alliance does well, and then there are the toss-ups. I think this is a good thing. Winning all the time would be a very boring thing to me. There is a part of me that even likes getting queued into Isle of Conquest and having a little bit of hope that this match might be the one where my team wins, and you know what... when we do win on that rare occasion, it feels absolutely great.
Then again, I remember back in the day when we would do the battleground grind for tokens. It was something like a loss would get you one and a win would get you three. It was important to try your hardest because you had to obtain multiples of each type of token in order to get things like PVP gear and the mounts. Dear Light do I ever remember the grind to get all of my mounts! Now I am not saying that grinding for tokens and a little bit of honor was harder than grinding for just honor, but I think the tokens made players work harder because the thought of running twenty Alterac Valleys for a single piece of gear could make some players go weak in the knees when they then realized they still needed tokens from Warsong Gulch and Arathi Basin!
At the end of the day, I realize there is nothing that can be done about those players who choose to complain, and in some cases not even try to win, but if by chance you come across this post, then maybe you will do a little experiment on your own and see that it is not honestly that bad. So what do you all think about battlegrounds? Like them or love them? Any good stories or memories from back in the day of grinding out tokens? Make sure and share them with us all! As for now, I am heading out and will catch you all tomorrow. I will however, leave you with one more picture! Feel free to put a caption on it!
