Good afternoon, I hope everyone is having a grand day today! Sadly, I have not had much time to work in Minecraft with any new buildings, but I have taken down half of the mountainous area I plan on extending my build into. As usual, what started out as something small, has grown into a major mountain removal! The above image is the halfway mark. The next area to clear is the right side of the image. I have already begun to mark the area off, and hopefully I'll be able to show a finished screenshot sometime soon. Now I know that this was not the most in depth post of all time, but let's remember Rome, was not built in a day either. Keep those hard hats on and stay safe at the job site so we'll see each other in the next Daily Dig!
Good morning, I hope you are all off to a great day. Today we say goodbye to Mondays Mean Minecraft and welcome a new series in its place, The Dig Report! As you may have noticed recently, we have been pumping out a lot more posts about Minecraft and because they are coming out at almost a daily rate, we just felt the old series title no longer matched up to what was actually happening. So with that said, let's dig into the report!
If you compare the above screenshot to prior days, you are going to notice that there is a huge chunk of the mountain that has been removed. I am planning to expand my starting area and to be honest, the mountain was simply in my way. Ultimately that area will be filled with buildings that will house the tools of our trade, various foods and meats, a smelting facility in order to produce various useful items, and even buildings that are meant to simply make the area begin to feel more like a town rather than a nicely built starting area.
One of the things I have learned from past builds is that I need to keep the builds smaller. This helps me stay focused on meeting smaller objectives versus building the massive sky scrapers and temples. Now that is not to say that eventually at some point I will not undertake such a project, but rather that for the short term, I want to simply have projects that will not carry on for more than a week at the most. As a point of reference, the above area that I have almost finished clearing, took around four hours to clear out over the course of the last couple days.
Well, my fellow miners, I believe that is going to wrap up this report. Make sure and keep your hard hats on when working in those mines or when at the build site. Stay safe and see you all next time!
Good Monday morning! I know it was quiet around here the last few days and that was due to personal reasons within my family; however, because it is Monday, we must have a Minecraft post, right?
As you can see, I have been a busy little Minecrafter! I expanded my house to include a bedroom. Then I got the idea that I wanted to explore the surrounding world, but I have a terrible habit of getting lost when I do this. That led me to build the structure directly across from my house. It is the beginning of a gigantic tower that I plan to build high enough that I should be able to see it for quite some time. Next to it, I added a barn and created some animal pens. Currently, I only have sheep, but I have found some pigs and cows off in the distance. Across from the barn, is a tree farm. I am not too keen on that building, so expect that to change.
I did some exploring and climbed up to the tops of some of the surrounding hills/mountains and I am really bummed as there is no village to be seen anywhere. This is going to mean that I probably will not be acquiring any pigs or rabbits any time soon, unless I get lucky and a zombie drops a carrot. I also discovered a large lava fall to the south of my complex. So I am trying my hardest to resist gathering the lava, as I don't want to burn my complex down.
Well, I hate to cut it short, but I have quite a bit to get done today. Hope you all have a great day and see you next time!
I hope you are all off to a great Thursday! In today's edition of Mondays Mean Minecraft, I wanted to share with everyone the beginning of what will become my first pit, or dig site one as I refer to it. Whenever I get into a new world, I like to get some very basic needs settled right away, shelter being the first, followed closely by food at second, and bringing up third place is the pit!
Now we all prefer to play our own ways, but I like to be able to go about my digging in peace and quiet. I don't want a random zombie or creeper falling on top of my head and ruining an otherwise glorious day filled of hauling dirt and rock. So naturally, I have to go find me enough sand to close off the entire top of the pit. Now an added bonus to this is that if I am on a server with a bunch of other players, then I will not have to worry about them falling to their death in what some may view as a giant random hole.
My in-game version of OCD comes out in that I like uniformity, so the walls have to be cobblestone, to give it that quarry kind of feel. While the area holding our glass up should be made out of wood that matches the surrounding buildings, which in this instance is the basic oak.
Once I get enough materials set aside, I plan to build myself a gigantic tower in order to get a better look around the area. Sadly, I have yet to really find any signs of a village, so I have not really started building a farm. I did come across a large group of sheep, so I may have to go and gather a few and bring back to start a mutton and wool farm. After all, I cannot live on bread alone... well, I guess I technically can, but I am sure my avatar would love a little variety in his life.
Welcome to a Wednesday edition of Mondays Mean Minecraft! In my effort to create a more sustainable food source, I have decided that I would take my garden in doors! This actually became a much bigger project than I had originally intended.
I had originally just been digging a long line in order to grab some cobblestone. As I began thinking about the issue of my wheat being outside, I decided it would make much more since to have it in doors, where I could harvest it at night. I try to move as much as I can either in doors or into safe locations where I can do those daily tasks when it might not be the safest to be out and about.
So I dug out the line to be even with the basement of my house and then had to dig down three levels so that I could surround the area with cobblestone. I use cobblestone as a foundation, that way as I do expansions around areas I have been building, I know not to plow through something. Then above the cobblestone is a layer of water to make the rich soil for the wheat to grow in! Now all I have to do is make sure that this is enough light. If not, then I will run lights down from the ceiling, but hoping I don't have to put in that much work. Time will tell in this case!
Good Monday... er Tuesday morning! Don't worry, I know it's not Monday, but I spent an hour or so working in my world last night and I felt it only fair to do a little update post. Now I know it is not a whole lot to look at currently, but just you wait and see. I guarantee that in a month or so from now, it will have either been burned to the ground in a freak accident involving lava, or it will have grown into something way bigger than it currently is.
Right now though, I am just trying to survive. I got dumped in a hill biome and spent most of my time running around the hillside hunting food. So far I have killed a few rabbits and found some pigs. Off to the right of the screenshot is a little pond where I have planted some seeds and am hoping to grow some wheat in order to allow me to actually live! Yay for living!
It's been far too long since we had a new adventure in Minecraft! So today marks the creation of a new world for Monday Mean Minecraft! Every time I have sat down to play Minecraft, I always think to myself, I should have taken some screenshots of what the world looked like before I begin changing it all around. So here is that series, with those screenshots I have always wanted to do. I know I should probably have some sort of goal for the series and all of that other stuff, but honestly, I just like to get in and do whatever strikes my fancy. So make sure and check back every Monday to see the progress that has been made each day!
Hey there everyone, hope you are all having a great Monday! Well, as the title says, it's time for a build update! In the last MMM, I shared a little bit about what we were up to in the world. Well, as I was beginning to build the ultimate Netherworld temple, I ran out of materials! So this lead to the rampant destruction of this hill region that you see above!
I honestly do not think this will provide me with enough raw material and so I am going to finish flattening most of the area you see above and then begin working on another phase of the project. I figure since I have to move beyond this initial area, I can probably go ahead and begin to build the first series of walls around what will be known as the initial phase of construction, or phase 1!
I wish I could give dimensions and what not, but if it helps, this temple is 100 blocks by 100 blocks at it's base. I have absolutely no clue how high that will go, but I can tell you that the phase one area dwarfs the temple. So yeah, naturally I am going to need a ton of material for both the structures in phase 1 and the wall which will surround it! Fortunately, for most of the structures, I can create cobblestone and thus will not be slowed down on that front. It might be boring though, but what else can I do?
Well, hopefully by next week, I will have an actual structure to show you! See you next time!
Everyone knows what happens on Mondays, right? Here at Holy Shock, Minecraft happens every Monday. Actually, it happens just about every day; however, Mondays are the designated day for talking about Minecraft. As I briefly mentioned last Tuesday, this series was one that I had done for a very brief time over on my YouTube channel. The thing with YouTube is that it takes an enormous amount of time to actually create content and with my time being so limited at the moment, I just felt that the renewal of the series would fit better here at the site. Perhaps in the future we will add in streaming Minecraft on Monday, but that will require us to do some computer upgrades.
My single player game started me in quite an odd area. It actually had three different biomes meeting. The first biome is just the wooded hillside with the spruce trees. The second biome was the more swamp type biome with the vines growing off the trees. The third biome was one that I had actually never really come across and it is one where there are really large dark oak trees growing and mixed in among them are the giant mushrooms. You can see a red one in one of the screenshots from above.
As a rule of survival, whenever I start a new world, I focus on creating pens for animals and creating areas to grow wheat and trees. The first three images above are of my cow and sheep pens, and then also a broad shot of where I grow my trees and also wheat. I haven't put a ton of effort into creating a house just yet, but I do have plans later on down the line. The fourth image is of my covered quarry and Miner's Guild hall. I will share more of those once I finish them off completely. In the distance was a huge mountain, but as I am known for doing, I have already begun tearing it down. In its place, I intend to build a giant temple with Nether portals at the top.
I had originally not intended to build this so soon, but I need to be able to get the nether quarts in order to begin construction of another project I have slated to go in next to the Miner's Guild hall. It may take quite some time to complete both of these projects, so look for more information about them in future posts.
Well, I know it is not the most exciting post, but when you spend four to six hours in a day just digging... excitement is not always there. If you have any recommendations or thoughts on what I should build next, then please feel free to leave them in the comments section. See you all next time!
Will you look at that! Two posts in a week! Well, I think I have worked hard enough. Someone turn the lights out when you leave... just kidding. I hope everyone is doing well on this glorious Tuesday! While I do not have a huge post for today, I wanted to take a moment and stop in and let you guys know that I have been hitting up Minecraft once again, and I expect to begin writing a series where I highlight exactly what it is that I have been doing and what my plans may be for future projects.
I actually would have loved to have started it yesterday, but I was out of town Saturday night and too lazy to do anything on Sunday. So basically what I am saying is check back next Monday for the renewed Mondays Mean Minecraft! If you are sitting there thinking that you have heard that phrase somewhere before... you might have! (Hint: YouTube!) Now, I doubt I will be doing any sort of YouTube series again with it, but you never know! If anything, I may stream while I dig. Not the most exciting thing out there, but someone may appreciate the endless amount of time it takes to rip down a mountain!
Well, I think that is going to do it for today. I can't hit you all up with too much stuff in one day after all! Hope you all have a great day and I will see you next time!
