I hope everyone had a great weekend that was filled full of good food and great friends! I realize it has been quite some time since we had a post up around here and so I figured I would just jump right into it today in talking about the latest solo adventure from Hearthstone!
The latest solo adventure is entitled Blackrock Mountain, and man have I had fun with the first wing. The first wing contains three bosses, each with their own unique abilities. I honestly wish I could sit down and write an in-depth strategy on how to beat the three bosses, but the truth is that I was so caught up in just having fun that I didn't pay much attention to what decks I was using. Fortunately, I did take a couple pictures!
So the first opponent is Coren Direbrew in the Grim Guzzler! His ability is called "Pile On!", and it summons a minion from each player's deck onto the battlefield. I want to say the first deck I played was a newer Rogue deck that I had been playing with for a couple days. The deck has been a lot of fun, but it focuses on using the buffs off of minion cards. Well, my luck was terrible and I got decimated as I watched buff card after buff card get pulled to the table. I conceded quickly and decided I would run my Druid deck that I aptly named, "Tanks for the Memory". It is a seldom used deck that I keep around because I have been too lazy to remove it and actually create a more usable Druid deck. In this instance though, the taunt deck was more than successful. On turn two, the hero ability of Coren pulled out my Ironbark Protector. That one card pretty much won me the match. On to the next boss!
Up next was the Dark Iron Arena with High Justice Grimstone! His ability is called "Jeering Crowd", and it costs one mana and summons a 1/1 taunt to the board. I figured why not just go ahead and use my Druid taunt deck since it got me the win. That was a bad decision and I got beaten pretty badly. I had terrible draws and it seemed as if Grimstone got every card he needed to wipe me out. I felt like I probably would want to go with something that had a little more card draw and the ability to clear the board if need be. So my answer was a new Warlock deck I had been messing around with earlier in the day. The design of the Warlock deck was really on using mostly spells to clear the board and then buffing Imps and hoping for lucky summons of demons from cards like Voidcaller and Bane of Doom. On the very first card draw, I got unlucky and drew Mal'Ganis. I was honestly hoping for something useful as I had a terrible opening hand. Well, long story short, turn four I played my Voidcaller and it was subsequently killed and replaced by Mal'Ganis. You can check the screenshot above to see how that ended for old High Justice Grimstone.
The final boss of the first wing is Emporer Thaurissan! His ability is called "Power of the Firelord" and does thirty points of damage! I figured there was a trick to the mechanic and naturally there is. He starts the match with the minion Moira Bronzebeard on the board. Her card reads: Thaurissan's Hero Power can't be used. Never attacks minions unless they have Taunt. Well, that was a huge problem for me! I had brought my Paladin deck, which is built around buffing and healing cards with Taunt. I went ahead and conceded right away as I knew there was no way for me to work around the taunts. I only had one deck that was created that had no taunts and that was my Mage deck that is built around freezing spells and secrets. It was not a perfect match up and it really just came down to quite a bit of luck for me as I managed to escape with one point of health at the end!
So having played the first wing I have to admit that I was ready for more; however, just like the Naxxramas solo adventure before it... I have to wait! Well, that does it for me today, but make sure and tell me what you think about the new solo adventure, Blackrock Mountain! See you next time!
